I told myself before that the brief little blurbs that I write when I share my book thoughts on fb were fine for a blog post, but then each blog post ended up becoming longer and more involved, and so I quickly started feeling like those blurbs weren’t good enough, which if course led to less posting, so I’m sticking to the original plan, damnit! Some of these are just gonna be short blurbs! I’d rather tell you something quick about these books than nothing. There’s always more to say.
Adrienne Rich is a voice in the desert. I saw a conversation on fb recently about Polish poetry where someone was talking about how they love its directness and plain language, and I’ve been thinking about it a lot. The same could be said, I think, of Rich’s poetry. It’s similar, too, to Audre Lorde’s writing, in that it’s astonishingly specific and one would almost want to say, plain-spoken, and yet so incredibly profound.
