Bintel Brief, Liana Finck (again)

I unabashedly adore this book, and so I continue to put it on my syllabus just to get it into students’ hands. And it works — there are always a few who look at me, glowing, and say that it’s their favorite so far as if they were describing a new crush. Maybe because I love the book so much, I never feel like I’m doing a good job teaching it, though it’s so eminently teachable; doing so many fascinating things. There’s a lot to sink your teeth into. And it adds such a brilliant fold to the contemplation of the blurred lines between history, journalism, and memoir that we’ve been traversing with Palestine and Maus, what with its open fictionalizing and abstract art. And with so much feeling! It’s such a cool book. I want everyone to read it.
